One of the many advantages of acupuncture is that its side effects are markedly less than other traditional Western treatments. The Cleveland Clinic, ranked as one of the top hospitals in the country, reports that “Clinical studies have shown that acupuncture bolsters various systems within the body, including the nervous system and the immune system . . . decreases the inflammation associated with different diseases, relieves muscle spasms and strain . ..[and] is used in conjunction with physical therapy for rehabilitation from serious injury.”

At South Reno Acupuncture, we use instant pain points, some of which are Traditional Chinese acupuncture points, and some of which are Tung-family Taiwanese points (a treasured family secret, handed down through many generations) to stop pain within minutes.
This 3500-year-old practice balances energy in your body. You’ve seen the t’ai qi symbol: a white fish swimming in a circle with a black fish. The black fish is yin (cool, nutritive, “female” energy); the white fish is yang (pure fire, “male” energy). The white fish has a black eye, which means that within yang is the seed of yin, and vice versa. This well-known image symbolizes the idea that Chinese medicine is a dynamic, constantly changing interplay of the forces that maintain life.
There are six yin and six yang organs, working together in husband/wife pairs. Each organ has two meridians, rivers of energy moving through your body in specific paths through which energy flows. Pain is due to blockage of qi (yang energy) and blood (yin energy) in a meridian. Acupuncture and herbs restore the flow of energy in blocked meridians, returning function and relieving pain.
A healing treatment employing acupuncture and herbs boosts Wei qi (immunity), leading to fewer and less intense colds and flus, increasing your energy for daily activities and decreasing stagnation (pain).
Western medicine diagnoses and treats specific symptoms, with laboratory-based science; however, Chinese medicine is a holistic healing art that treats the whole person as an interconnected system—body, mind, and spirit. You can’t put qi in a petri dish and measure it, or CT scan the flow of energy in a meridian, so some who are unfamiliar with this centuries-old Eastern practice are skeptical of it; however, a growing body of Western based evidence shows that improving the flow of qi works brilliantly to aid overall health and wellness.
Anxiety? Pain? Chinese medicine makes no distinction between the health of your body and the health of your emotions. Stress and anxiety are real pain, as real and valid as a pinched nerve in your back and are caused by similar blockages of the flow of qi and blood that cause physical pain.
